Optimal choice, placement of light in the bathroom

The quartblog will explore the issue of lighting in the bathroom, where and how to place lamps correctly, and what types of lamps are suitable.

The problem of bathroom lighting receives undeservedly little attention. While chandeliers, floor lamps and table lamps are being selected for months for living rooms, bedrooms and even kitchens, the bathroom, in a sense, remains terra incognita. Most homeowners believe that the minimum required to illuminate a bathroom is one simple source.

But let's think about whether this is so. In all other rooms, there are supposed to be more light sources, and they are each dispersed in their own area. Thus, all parts of the room are equally illuminated, and you can use all the possibilities at once or separately.

No one will argue that the desk and chair in which we are used to reading in the evenings need additional lighting - a chandelier, naturally, cannot cover all areas. And it’s even more surprising that for some reason different standards apply to the bathroom.

The role of light in the bathroom interior

The installation of a lighting system in this room requires a responsible approach. There are certain difficulties in this process. First of all, when creating lighting, it is necessary to take into account specific operating conditions. Even in a spacious room equipped with high-quality ventilation, humidity and air temperature will periodically rise. Lamps located in the bathroom must be designed for these parameters.

When developing a lighting system diagram, choosing the location of lighting devices and their power, it is necessary to focus on the functions of light in the bathroom. Lighting:

  • creates comfortable conditions for all procedures;
  • emphasizes the advantages of plumbing equipment and finishing materials;
  • is one of the main interior decorations;
  • if necessary, performs visual correction of the room.

Lighting is one of the main decorations of the bathroom

In a large room, zoning is performed, allowing for each procedure to be allocated an autonomous area. In this case, individual lighting is provided for each zone. In small rooms, the main lighting fixtures are usually placed on the ceiling, at the top of the walls. But there must be additional lamps in the area where the mirror is placed. Otherwise, it will be difficult to shave and perform cosmetic procedures.

Proper placement of lamps will provide an opportunity to demonstrate the attractiveness of wall tiles, mosaics, and floor coverings. With the help of light in the bathroom, interior design can be made as expressive and sophisticated as possible.

The right light in the bathroom will make the interior more expressive

It is difficult to use decor in the design of this room. Its area is limited, difficult conditions do not allow decorating the interior with objects that do not have proper resistance to external influences. Lamps will do this function perfectly. They can become worthy decorations of the environment.

The need for bathroom renovations arises often. In most cases, you need to visually expand the room, raise the ceilings, and create a feeling of spaciousness. Light will provide significant assistance in solving this problem. Reflection of flows by glossy surfaces, high-quality lighting of light finishes will visually enlarge the room and add lightness to the interior.

The right light helps visually raise ceilings

Bath lighting

As described above, LEDs are now the best option for lighting. This is a very convenient and beautiful lighting, which is used not only to decorate the bathroom, but also for the shower stall. Designers use LED lamps for soft light that will not irritate the eyes.

Manufacturers are also trying to help save space in a small bathroom, so they equip furniture or plumbing fixtures with LED lamps. They are not afraid of water or high temperatures, because such lamps are tightly covered with glass.

If the bathroom is large and has a jacuzzi installed, then the best option is to install diode lamps with non-standard colors. Such light will not disturb the aesthetics and appearance of the room.

Don’t forget about the LED strip, which can be built into the wall. This tape is original in itself, because it can be bent the way your heart desires. Due to its elasticity and flexibility, it is possible to decorate some plumbing parts.

Specifics of electrical wiring in the bathroom

Deciding how to arrange the lamps in the bathroom and what lighting devices will be used in the system is necessary at the preparatory stage before the renovation. Wiring in this room is carried out in a hidden way; the following is required:

  • create an accurate cable routing diagram;
  • choose wires taking into account the power of all electrical appliances;
  • make a secure, reliable connection.

When installing electricity in the bathroom, aluminum and copper cables with a cross section of 4 mm and 2.5 mm are used, respectively. To determine the exact size for a specific room, the total power indicator is divided by 220. However, you should not make your own choice of consumables for the lighting system. It is better to entrust this work to a specialist who will do the wiring.

Example lighting system plan

Having an accurate layout of light sources allows you to drill walls and ceilings in the right places, lay cables along optimal routes, and ensure convenient use of lamps.

How to cut a hole for a lamp on a suspended ceiling

What we need:

  • thermal ring
  • glue
  • knife
  • small screwdriver

Depending on the manufacturer, tread rings can be clear or white and can be made from a variety of materials. You should not save on them; a difference of 2 rubles may later result in a replacement of the canvas. The main burden of removing heat from the lamp falls on the thermal rings.

The diameter of the ring should be selected correctly. It should not fall into the hole in the installation platform. But also, the protector ring should not be too large and extend beyond the edges of the mounting cup of the lamp. Usually the cut-in diameter is written on the box with the spot.

To fix the thermal ring on the canvas, a special glue from the cyanoacrylate group is used. For example, such as Cosmofen or even regular instant in 3g tubes.

When applying glue to the tread ring, be careful. Don't overdo it and overfill. Excesses protruding from the outside of the ring can be noticeable, especially if the diameter of the lamp just overlaps them. Whereas the glue that comes out inside is not so dangerous

It is important to position the ring correctly on the ceiling - there will be no second chance. If the ring is pressed tightly to the film, fixation occurs almost instantly

After the glue has completely dried after 3-5 minutes, check if the ring is holding well. It should be firmly and securely glued along its entire length. If there are any omissions, they must be eliminated. A drop of Cosmofen on the end of a screwdriver will help with this. You can easily remove dried glue from a screwdriver with a knife.

Then, as we are convinced of the reliability of the reinforcement of our future hole, we can move on to the next step. You need to cut the film right under the ring. You should not leave the fringe of the canvas inside. This will allow you to easily install the lamp in the future. Use only sharp knife blades!

Main requirements for lamps

There are many types of fixtures used in modern bathrooms. Models are selected taking into account specific room factors. There are general requirements for devices that will create light in the bathroom. They have to:

  • have the required level of protection from moisture;
  • correspond to the purpose and style of the interior;
  • be easy to care for.

Each manufacturer of lighting products has models that have different levels of protection from dust, moisture, and mechanical influences. They all matter to this room.

All lamps must have the proper level of protection from moisture

Each lamp will be an important element of the interior, often performing not only practical, but also decorative functions. You need to choose models that will flawlessly cope with both purposes.

Regular cleaning is a must to maintain proper order. The design of lighting devices should ensure easy removal of dust and contaminants. All surfaces must be resistant to household chemicals, which will have to be used for cleaning.

The light in the bathroom also performs decorative functions

What is a security index?

Lighting products are marked with IP indexes with a three-digit digital code. This code will tell a literate consumer a lot about the product he wants to buy.

So here's what these numbers tell us:

  • First. This is the degree of protection against dirt and dust, increasing from 0 to 6.
  • Second. This is waterproof from 0 to 8. With protection 8, the product can be immersed in water for a long time.
  • Third. This is an impact resistance from 0 to 10. The mechanical impact on the product is measured in joules. Index 10 corresponds to 20J. With guaranteed shock resistance, the device may receive external damage, but its functionality and electrical safety will not be affected.

Knowing the labeling will help you purchase a product that the consumer is interested in using.

A mechanical shock inflicted on a vandal-proof device with a high degree of protection may result in a scratch or dent, but it will not lose its safe functionality.

Optimal levels of protection for a bathroom light fixture

Knowing how to decipher the labeling of lighting devices will help you choose the right light for your bathroom. Three numbers are used to indicate protection levels:

  • the first stands for dust insulation;
  • the second indicates tightness, preventing the penetration of moisture;
  • the third shows the level of resistance to mechanical stress.

Based on dust protection, lamps are divided into 7 categories. The number “0” indicates the absence of protection, complete openness, the maximum dust resistance is indicated by “6”.

Protection level table

Based on water resistance, devices are divided into 9 categories. This is the most important indicator for the bathroom. Devices with the number “0” are not protected from moisture and are absolutely unsuitable for this room. Level 8 lamps can function while in water. It is not necessary to use them to decorate the interior of the bathroom. The water resistance category is selected taking into account the location of the device and the intensity of exposure to moisture.

The level of shock resistance varies in the range of 0-10. Maximum ratings for luminaires are optional. But devices placed in areas of possible accidental impacts must have decent strength. This will ensure safety in use.

What to consider when choosing devices?

In the process of creating a design project, it is necessary to select the optimal model of the lamp, taking into account the characteristics of the room, the design and texture of the finishing materials.

For example, built-in models are not suitable for arranging a bathroom with a ceiling made of a monolithic concrete slab. In this case, it is better to use overhead fixtures or ceiling fixtures in the form of chandeliers.

In an effort to create a stylish interior and a comfortable environment, special attention must be paid to the choice of lighting equipment. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the design, characteristics, dimensions, lamp power, methods of mounting the electrical appliance and the need for additional structural elements

When arranging a spacious room, designers advise focusing on traditional lighting solutions that will fit perfectly into the interior

If the bathroom is large, then a beautiful chandelier will look organic. But spot models, correctly and evenly distributed throughout the ceiling space, will allow you to create a stylish interior that takes into account current trends.

When choosing lamps, the following factors must be taken into account:

  • room area and distance between lamps;
  • zoning of the room, the need to highlight separate areas;
  • instrument level;
  • interior style direction;
  • color scheme of walls, floors, furniture and plumbing;
  • the presence of mirrors, tension structures, ceramic tiles and other surfaces that reflect light.

Before you begin installation work, you need to think through the layout of the light sources and the nuances of cable routing. Some models offered by manufacturers in the assortment require the creation of special conditions.

The quality of products directly affects their service life. Expensive branded models of built-in or surface-mounted lamps compare favorably with cheaper ones. They are of higher quality, wear-resistant, and therefore retain their aesthetic appearance for a long time.

In an effort to create a stylish and original interior in the bathroom, we must not forget about safety. Electrical devices intended for installation in rooms with high humidity must have a maximum degree of protection, which corresponds to the IP65 marking.

The bathroom is divided into zones with different humidity levels. The bright blue area is exposed to maximum splash water.

When arranging rooms with high humidity levels, certain rules must be followed.

The following recommendations will help you organize safe room lighting:

  • You can only use moisture-resistant electrical appliances with a degree of protection of IP24;
  • in areas of high humidity, install low-voltage devices up to 12 V;
  • use lighting devices of protection class 2 near the bathtub or shower stall;
  • it is desirable that all metal parts are made of stainless steel or have anti-corrosion properties;
  • Light bulbs and other heated parts of electrical appliances must be equipped with protective covers or shades.

You should also remember about the features and properties of light rays. So, next to the washbasin it is better to use lamps with a softer yellow light. Otherwise, the mirror will reflect rather pale skin, which will prevent you from applying makeup correctly.

Our recommended article will familiarize you with the rules for choosing color temperature and the nomenclature designations of lighting devices, which allow you to select an LED light bulb in accordance with this important characteristic. Proper lighting should be bright, soft and diffused

This will highlight the colors of the interior elements and finishing materials and create a cozy atmosphere.

Proper lighting should be bright, soft and diffused. This will highlight the colors of the interior elements and finishing materials and create a cozy atmosphere.

For a bathroom with dimensions of 5x2 m, 2 lamps of 60 W are sufficient. You can use 2 lamps spaced on the sides, but in this case the mirror will require additional lighting. You can get acquainted with guidelines for selecting lighting devices for the bathroom in an informative article, the content of which is entirely devoted to this issue.

Lamp placement and water resistance

When choosing light for the bathroom, you need to remember safety requirements. It is not necessary to buy all the lamps with maximum moisture protection for it. This indicator depends on the area in which the device will be located. There are recommendations from experts that you can follow when purchasing light sources.

  1. Zone I includes shower boxes, areas near the bathtub, and sinks. Lamps with IP from 674 can be selected for it.
  2. Level II zones include the upper part, located above the bathtub. There is a risk of contact with drops and shower jets. Light sources must be marked with IP from 452.
  3. Zones III are located half a meter from the bathtub and sink. In these areas, drops of water may fall on the lighting fixture. Models must have an IP of 242.
  4. Areas located far from sinks and bathtubs belong to zone IV. Condensation may accumulate in it, and the air will periodically have an increased level of humidity. You can place luminaires with IP from 011 in these areas.

Decoding the degree of protection (IP)

High-quality insulation of the working components of a lighting device eliminates the risk of a short circuit, which can lead to failure of the lamps or fire.

No. 6. Mirror and washbasin lighting

The mirror needs to be illuminated so that the reflection in it is as natural as possible, without unnecessary shadows and does not distort the colors. In this case, it is better to refuse lamps under the mirror, as well as colored lighting, which will create unnecessary color spots on your reflection. It is better if the light is as soft as possible , so the lampshades can be matte or white. The best option is to place light sources on the sides or along the perimeter of the mirror. Lamps can be used of absolutely any type, but it is better that the resulting light is as close as possible to natural daylight.

Lamps in bathroom fixtures

Not only lamp models, but also lamp types deserve careful selection. They must create comfortable light in the bathroom, provide a cozy atmosphere, be reliable, and cost-effective. Nowadays, household lighting devices are equipped with lamps:

  • incandescent;
  • halogen;
  • luminescent;
  • LED.

An incandescent lamp is cheap, when turned on, it immediately provides full lighting power and creates streams of warm shade. But such light sources do not last long and consume a lot of electricity. They cannot be installed in plastic shades, as the lamp gets very hot.

Incandescent lamps get very hot

Halogen models are much more economical than their filament counterparts. They last several times longer and are energy efficient. Often such lamps are installed in spots, point models. To create a lighting system, you can use 220 V or 12 V sources. Twelve-volt devices will require a special transformer.

Halogen lamps are energy efficient

Fluorescent lamps are mostly mounted near mirrors and sinks and provide high-quality illumination of the work area. The assortment includes models with different shades of glow. Experts do not recommend using fluorescent tubes in the bathroom. Their functioning depends on voltage and temperature fluctuations. In addition, the lamps make noise when operating, which can interfere with quality relaxation.

Fluorescent lamps for lighting mirrors

In bathroom lighting design, LEDs are now one of the most popular players. They have many advantages. LED light sources have a maximum service life and are characterized by low energy consumption. In addition, you can install colored LEDs, create the desired atmosphere, adjust the light intensity and its shades. There are many options in LED products, allowing you to choose models for main, additional lighting, and local lighting.

Colored LED light in the bathroom

Why should you use LED lamps?

Compared to other artificial lighting sources, LED lamps deserve the highest rating. Their superiority when organizing lighting in the bathroom is in the following points:

  1. LED lamps are completely interchangeable with all known types of light bulbs, as they are manufactured for all types of sockets. Taking into account this fact, switching to LED lighting in a bathroom that has already undergone a major renovation will not be difficult.
  2. The temperature of the body of a high-quality LED light bulb does not exceed 80°C, and the body of the lamp itself with such a lamp remains cold or barely warm. As a result, overheating and subsequent yellowing of the ceiling sheet are eliminated. You don’t have to be afraid to use any type of spotlights.
  3. In addition to the usual standard voltage of 220 V, light sources are commercially available that are designed for a voltage of 12 V (safe for lighting rooms with high humidity).
  4. LED lamps can be produced without the use of glass and, unlike incandescent and halogen lamps, do not explode when switched on at high voltage.
  5. Based on personal taste and the color of the interior trim, you can choose LED lamps with the most suitable shade of white light.
  6. The high efficiency of light sources based on LEDs has made it possible to reduce the size of LED lamps and luminaires. Compact and at the same time bright lamps not only emphasize style, but also save space, which is important for small bathrooms.

General principles for placing lighting fixtures

Regardless of the size of the bathroom, three zones are created in it. This allows you to create comfortable conditions for all procedures. You need to determine how to position the light in the bathroom to ensure high-quality lighting of the areas:

  • washing, cosmetic procedures;
  • bathing, showering;
  • washing, changing clothes, storing things.

Example of zone lighting in a bathroom

In the wash area, you need to provide high-quality lighting for the mirror and sink. The location of the lamps in the bathing area depends on the type of plumbing equipment. Light sources can be located in the box, above the bathtub, or in the shower corner. The changing and washing area can be illuminated by a common ceiling lamp. Additionally, spotlights can be installed in furniture for maximum convenience.

Principles and selection criteria

During a room inspection, measurers can offer several dozen options for the placement of spotlights on a suspended ceiling. Small lighting bulbs can be combined with chandeliers or LED strips. All these combinations will result in a huge number of design options, so it’s worth taking technical aspects into account.

Area and layout

First of all, you need to keep in mind the size of the room, its purpose and the coefficient of natural light in the room

It is important to remember that you can reduce the brightness using additional switches or a combination of several lamps, but it is impossible to increase the illumination. Installation specialists will help you calculate a favorable light level

physical characteristics

Spot lamp models are most often built into the ceiling or installed in close proximity to it. In this case, heat release indicators are taken into account. Tension models in which PVC film was used will not withstand a load of more than 40 W. Fabric models cope with the heat emission of 60 W bulbs. Halogen lamps reduce the permissible parameter to 20 and 35 W. These values are extremely important, because they allow you to increase the service life of the ceiling.

For very spacious rooms, experts recommend installing a chandelier in combination with spotlights. The latter act as a room divider into zones and create comfort and a pleasant atmosphere. The chandelier will provide the required level of lighting when necessary.

Design Features

If the design of suspended ceilings with spotlights does not involve the installation of a full-fledged chandelier, then it is worth considering the option of installing elements with external fastening. This will solve the issue of thermal conductivity and increase the permissible power.

It is recommended to additionally equip halogen lamps with a dimmer. A special device for smoothly adjusting the light is not suitable for energy-saving lamps, since the models will periodically turn off completely and quickly fail.

A master measurer will be able to accurately calculate the required number of lamps. The basic standards look like this: one chiseled lighting element should account for 2 m2 of ceiling space. This means that for a room of 25 m2 you need to install about 15 lamps. But the standards can be adjusted, since it all depends on the model, power, type of ceiling, room, combination with other elements and level of natural light.

Lamp placement levels

The photo of the light in the bathrooms shows three levels of placement of appliances. Lighting is installed in this room:

  • top,
  • average,
  • lower.

Ceiling lights are necessary for the convenience of using the room. They create the main light and illuminate all areas. In the range of lighting products you can find options for a room of any size, taking into account the style and design features. Chandeliers and lampshades can be located on the upper level; spotlights can be used in the bathroom.

Ceiling lights create the main light

Mid-level lighting is called task lighting. This area contains light sources that provide comfort during procedures. For the most part, wall-mounted models are chosen for these purposes.

Mid-level lamps provide comfort during procedures

Lower light is not a necessary element to create proper comfort. This lighting is decorative, used to give the interior originality and create a special atmosphere. In addition, installing lamps in the lower zone allows you to perform visual correction, expand the room, and make it more spacious.

Bottom light creates a special atmosphere

Design and installation features

All of the above points must be taken into account before drawing up a lighting design for the bathroom. The installation of LED devices will be taken into account in such a scheme.

Usually you need to decide on the main and additional lighting, provide switches for them, and determine the location of sockets for connecting various household appliances.

To avoid confusion and correctly connect the ends of the electrical wires leading into the junction box, it is recommended to use color markings

After this, a wiring plan is drawn up, the location of distribution boxes, etc. is determined. A cable with a cross-section of 2.5 square meters is laid from the general apartment electrical panel to the bathroom junction box. mm. It is suitable for lamps and also for lighting.

A more powerful cable intended for large equipment is laid separately. It is recommended to color-code the different cables to prevent them from being accidentally mixed up. After this, lay the wire to the switch.

If all lighting fixtures are turned on with one key, then it will be enough to use a regular double wire.

But LED lighting in the bathroom is usually turned on separately from the main lighting. In this case, use a triple cable. If a switch with three keys is used for lighting, i.e. for three separate groups of lamps, you will have to use two double cables. The cross-section of such a wire should be 1.5 square meters. mm.

After this, the cable is laid from the switch directly to the lighting fixtures. It is worth immediately taking into account that it is not recommended to carry out open wiring in bathrooms, so you will have to make grooves. In some cases, it is possible to lay the cable in a special plastic box.

Groups of auxiliary spotlights can be connected in parallel or in series. In the first case, you will need to connect a separate power line to each lamp, in the second, you will need to connect the lamps along one line one after another.

With a parallel connection, both cable consumption and the amount of work increase significantly. In the second case, everything is much simpler and cheaper.

But serial connection has a number of disadvantages. For example, if one lamp burns out, the supply of electricity to the entire circuit will be interrupted. In addition, there is no way to diversify the LED backlight control system.

With a parallel connection, a burnt-out element will not in any way spoil the operation of the remaining lamps.

If there is a desire to arrange the possibility of turning on not all lamps at the same time, but only some, for example, every second lamp, then a parallel connection will be needed. This allows you to adjust the level of illumination in the room.

If desired, methods for connecting lamps can be combined, for example, lighting a mirror can be done in a sequential way, and to decorate a bath or ceiling, use a parallel connection, etc.

For this type of lighting fixture, it is recommended to use a flexible stranded wire. Monolithic cable can make it difficult to install fixtures correctly by changing their position. Installation work with flexible wire is usually not difficult to perform, but all twists should be carefully soldered and insulated.

ShVVP type stranded wire has conductors twisted from copper wire, covered with a polyvinyl chloride plastic coating, which protects the structure from the influence of foreign factors

Typically, for bathroom fixtures, it is recommended to use wires of the ShVVP, PVA or similar types, in which the stranded cores are securely covered with a layer of polyvinyl chloride plastic.

Such protection will prevent the spread of fire in case of fire, prevent the formation of fungi, and is resistant to moisture.

Exiting wires through the mounting hole in the wall and connecting them to a two-key switch

The supply cable must be laid in a protective corrugated channel. For systems with grounding terminals, a four-core wire is used, but if such an element is missing, a three-core design will be sufficient. Holes of a suitable size are made in the suspended ceiling canvas for spotlights.

Wire outlets should come out of them, two segments for each switch key, as well as two more wires for the reverse connection. To facilitate installation, it is recommended to leave the length of the outlets approximately 15-20 cm. The ends of the outlets of the same color must be cleaned and connected into twists.

At least two wire outlets about 20 cm long must extend into the mounting hole intended for installing a spotlight.

If you intend to connect to a switch with two keys, then three twists will come out of each hole. One of them will be common to all lamps, and the other two will be for the switch keys.

Accordingly, the first twist is attached to each lamp, and the rest - only to those elements that will be controlled by a specific key.

One common wire must be connected to each lamp and brought to “zero” (blue wire), the rest are connected to different lamps and connected to the “phase” of different switch keys. 1 and 2 are groups of lamps

The common wire in the distribution box will be connected to the neutral wire, and the phase should be connected to the switch and divided into two lines leading to the corresponding keys for different groups of lamps.

Types of light sources, their features

Creating a flawless bathroom lighting design is now easy. A huge range of lighting products allows you to implement any project and create absolute comfort in the room. The following lamps can be used in the lighting system:

  • hanging;
  • invoices;
  • built-in;
  • wall;
  • point;
  • LED designs.

In a spacious room with high ceilings, you can install a chandelier with several light sources for high-quality lighting of the room. If the walls are not very high, an overlay model would be a good option. In small rooms, recessed lamps are installed that do not require free space.

Chandelier suitable for bathrooms with high ceilings

Wall-mounted units are the best option for decorating work areas. Spot light in the bathroom can be used as main lighting. These lamps can be installed in the area of cosmetic procedures and bathing. Devices of this type have high-quality sealing and a high level of protection from moisture. They are installed in any zones.

Wall lamps for decorating work areas

A popular element of modern design are LED strips. There are no restrictions on the installation of LED structures; you can create spectacular lighting in any area. A significant advantage of such models is the ability to adjust the intensity and color of the glow. For this purpose they are equipped with special devices.

LED strips create spectacular lighting

Individuality and romance

One of the signs of our time is the massive rejection of everything impersonal and standard. Every owner wants his apartment or house to acquire individual features. That is why beautiful handmade compositions, which are non-traditional light sources, are especially popular.

If there is a niche in a spacious bathroom that does not carry a special functional load, it can be decorated with a composition that emits light.

Candles create an unforgettable atmosphere of romance and happiness, which we sometimes lack. Never stop getting full rest and recharging yourself with the energy of joy.

It is impossible not to mention those light sources that fill our home with romance. They themselves are its generally recognized embodiment. Of course, we are talking about candles. This wonderful invention of mankind today takes on unusual forms and incredibly captivating aromas.

When we light candles, we plunge into an atmosphere of peace and sensuality, forgetting about everything that worried and irritated us throughout the day. It is necessary to give yourself the opportunity to fully rest and recover.

Recommendations for choosing lamps

It is not so easy to choose the optimal light for the bathroom from a huge selection. Professional recommendations can help you in your search:

  • When lighting a mirror, it is necessary to exclude unnatural images and shadows. There is no need to install a light source under the mirror or use colored lamps. The best option is a sconce with matte, white shades. The devices are installed on the sides.
  • The bathing area may not be additionally illuminated. But if you want to create an atmosphere conducive to relaxation, you can hang a sconce over the bathroom and use lamps to illuminate the bottom. It must be taken into account that hanging lamps cannot be installed directly above the container. The latest generation of shower cabins have independent lighting.

Lighting the bathing area promotes relaxation

  • Spot light in the bathroom can significantly increase the comfort and attractiveness of the interior. These elements are used for installation on the ceiling, walls, niches, steps, pedestals, etc. Installation of such light sources in furniture ensures ease of use.
  • It is worth using floor lamps in the interior to provide the most cozy atmosphere. A good solution could be self-leveling floors with lighting and marine decor.

Floor lamp in the bathroom

  • When choosing lamps, you need to take into account the color scheme of the interior. Light sources halogen, filament, LED, fluorescent can create a warm, cold glow in various shades. It is necessary to ensure consistency of tones, adjust the design if necessary, add warmth or coolness using lighting devices.

A competent choice of light sources and combinations of different types of devices will create maximum comfort and coziness.

Features of the selection of lamps for suspended ceilings

Stretch ceilings are different, and so are lamps. The most key point in selecting spots for a stretch ceiling is not their visual appeal and size, but their power. You should “dance” from it, since there is a high probability of damage to the coating due to heat.

But a melted stretch ceiling cannot be repaired, you understand. So, be careful at this moment so that it doesn’t cause excruciating pain later.

What types of suspended ceilings are there: film (PVC) and fabric. Moreover, both the one and the other option do not tolerate strong heat, but the fabric one is a little more stable. In addition, if you heat up the film ceiling too much, in addition to rapid deterioration, you will daily receive a portion of formaldehyde vapor into the air, since it is released at temperatures above 70 degrees.

So, what then is the optimal possible power for spotlights?

For fabric ceilings:

  • Halogen – up to 35 W
  • Incandescent lamps – up to 60 W

For film ceilings:

  • Halogen – up to 20 W
  • Incandescent lamps – up to 40 W

There is also another great option - LED lamps. Their cost is slightly more than those mentioned above, but:

  • last much longer;
  • There is no way they can melt the ceiling;
  • since they emit almost no heat at all.

But there is also one small point here: in order to “start” these lamps, you need to connect them to a special adapter, which not only heats up, but literally “burns”. Therefore, under no circumstances place this device on the ceiling itself, under the film!

It is better to place it somewhere on the wall, in a corner, behind a curtain. This will be even more convenient for you, since adapters periodically need repairs, and disassembling a suspended ceiling for this purpose is not fun for the faint of heart, to put it mildly.

Apart from this, we have nothing more to add. You are free to choose absolutely any design and size of spots, based solely on your taste and wallet.

Bathroom lighting in classic styles

Admirers of luxury and lovers of maximum comfort give preference to classic styles and country styles. In such designs, light sources with a warm glow are installed. The design of the models is chosen taking into account the style and basic colors of the interior. For a cozy atmosphere the following are used:

  • ceiling chandeliers;
  • wall sconces;
  • recessed lamps.

On a high ceiling you can mount a chandelier with a pendant. In the range of such lamps it is easy to find a product for any style. It is not necessary to choose a crystal chandelier. Modern glass processing technologies make it possible to create high-quality imitations of natural minerals. Floral models and designs with matte shades look good in country styles.

Vintage-style wall sconces are used to create comfortable light for the bathroom. They are installed near mirrors, sinks, and can be used in the bathing area. It is important to choose models that have reliable protection against moisture.

Spectacular sconces in vintage style

If the room is small and the ceilings are low, overhead ceiling chandeliers and recessed lamps will help create a cozy, beautiful interior. The assortment includes models in a classic style that will become a worthy decoration.

Can be used in a classic style and as floor lighting. It will highlight the beauty of wood-look flooring that imitates natural stone. These light sources will fill the atmosphere with comfort and add a touch of chic.

Overhead ceiling chandeliers for small bathrooms

Ceiling

Ceiling - these are large hanging chandeliers in which many lamps are placed. This type of lighting is usually used in large rooms. If you hang such a lamp in a small bathroom, the room will visually appear smaller.

Lamps in modern styles

Modern styles are often used to decorate bathrooms. Their laconicism and functionality correspond to the specifics of the room. For minimalism, hi-tech, loft, choose:

  • ceiling, wall, built-in, floor models;
  • lamps with a simple design, discreet design;
  • innovative light sources with the latest technologies.

Lighting manufacturers offer many options for cutting-edge styles. These interiors are decorated with spider chandeliers, models with imitation lanterns, and designs of bizarre shapes. Spotlights are often used as general lighting.

Spotlights are ideal for modern interiors

Spotlight in a modern-style bathroom can play a fundamental role. Such products are used for basic, side lighting, from which a “starry sky” is created on the ceiling, framing mirrors, podiums, etc.

The advent of LEDs allowed designers to realize any creative idea. Modern styles use lamps made from tubes, elements, backlights are created from LED strips, etc. Systems with dimmers and controllers are popular, providing the ability to set the desired intensity of light fluxes and choose shades of light. This allows you to set the right atmosphere for morning invigorating procedures and evening relaxation.

Furniture lighting

Light not only illuminates a room, but can also enhance the design of furniture. LED strips, which are highly flexible and compact, are often used to illuminate furniture. With this option, you can decorate niches and shelves with a ribbon of white, soft light. It is secured under protruding parts of furniture.

Spot and strip LEDs are often placed under mirrors or shelves. So, light improves the entire decor. This option does not require large tape sizes; it will be enough to purchase a model with a diameter of 5 cm or more. In the same way, you can place the tape under hanging furniture elements.

Furniture that is installed in the wall is also illuminated with a ribbon from above. Sometimes LED spotlights are used. Colors such as gold, white and blue are combined with absolutely the entire interior. You can find many examples of bathroom lighting.

General principles for creating a lighting system in the bathroom

Creating a lighting system in the bathroom must be approached responsibly. It should provide comfortable conditions in the room and guarantee convenient use. Types of lamps and their placement are determined individually for a specific room. You can use photos of light in the bathroom as examples. However, several requirements must be observed to ensure safety:

  • laying of system cables must be carried out in a closed manner;
  • The wiring diagram must be drawn up by a professional electrician;
  • you should choose the installation location of the lamps wisely; there should be no extension cords or tees in the bathtub;
  • lamps must have the required level of protection from moisture;
  • When choosing the location of the device, it is necessary to minimize the risk of water ingress.

The light in the bathroom should be in harmony with the interior style

The modern range allows you to choose reliable, safe light sources for any area. They will help create comfort for washing, cosmetic procedures, and bathing. However, when choosing models, you should carefully study the markings to make sure that the device meets the requirements for the level of protection. It is worth paying attention to the processing and finishing of structures. All metal parts must have coatings that prevent rust from forming. Materials must retain their properties when exposed to water and household chemicals.

Floor lighting

A very beautiful, economical and original option for lighting. But it is worth considering that such light should not be installed yourself, without special technology.

The floor always becomes damp after a shower or bath. Therefore, you should protect yourself as much as possible and install the necessary elements for waterproofing. For this method, the degree of protection must be IP67. All devices with this degree are equipped with moisture and dust resistance.

As mentioned above, this technique saves a lot of space, so it is an ideal option for lighting a small bathroom.

Also, do not forget about neon lamps. Of course, their price may be too expensive for some, but their uniqueness and long service life pay for all expenses. They can work for up to 10 years, and sometimes longer. You can choose any color of neon lamps, you can also purchase a lamp that will be controlled by a remote control.

Such lamps must be placed on the floor or wall and insulated from moisture. Designers suggest placing such lighting along the walls, away from taps.

A cheaper and more modern analogue of such lamps is LED strips. Their installation is very easy and simple. The service life is much longer than neon lamps and also less fragile. They can be used both outside and hidden in the bathroom.

You can diversify your interior using any type of lamps. However, it is important to carefully study the safety precautions during their installation and operation. The lamps in them must be resistant to temperature changes and protected from water, dust, and debris.

Mistake 8. Not paying attention to the material of the lamp

Even the most fashionable metal sconce without a protective layer will eventually become covered with red spots. And models made of glass and plastic will last much longer. Such materials are not destroyed by moisture and detergents, and in the long run save time and money. If you still cannot do without metal materials, check the composition for the presence of a reliable powder coating (protective layer).
